How Biased Language Impacts Decision Making

Miss Hall’s Hallmark Statistics class conducted surveys to determine how biased questions influenced people’s responses.

A few weeks ago, students in Hallmark Statistics learned how biased questions could affect the outcome of a survey. They conducted surveys with both biased and objective questions and then determined if the bias affected the results. They found that the use of adjectives with either positive or negative connotations or the use of more emotional language tricked people into believing their responses were objective and were not influenced by other factors. Students learned that when conducting a survey, it is extremely important to make sure the question is objective and neutral.
