In English IV: Gender and Sexuality in Literature students were asked to create projects to bring awareness to writers in the LGBTQIA+ community. Ebony Marshall ’21 chose to highlight Danez Smith and Franny Choi, two poets she admires and who are members of the Dark Noise Collective, a group of multiracial writers who explore themes of identity, intersectionality, trauma, and healing.
“With this project, I hope people can find an appreciation for these two artists the same way I have,” Ebony says. “The issues that these artists speak to were relatable for me, as an LGBTQIA+ person of color. This project took so much time to get finished, but my efforts clearly haven’t gone to waste.”
